What Platform is Right For You?
With all of the website platforms out there it can be hard to choose what’s best for you. We’ve narrowed it down to three of our favorites. We specialize in WordPress website design and offer Squarespace and Shopify as well.
- WordPress – Self-hosted WordPress is a CMS (content management system) that you download and install on a third-party hosting account (we offer hosting and maintenance plans that make this easy if you’re using our services). If you want to blog or custom functionality WordPress is likely your best option. The functionality for customization with WordPress exceeds some of the other out of the box options as well which is one of the reasons WordPress is our go-to. You can sell online through WordPress with WooCommerce. WooCommerce is really robust and offers much of the same functionality that e-commerce platforms like Shopify offer but may require more plugins to make it work if you’re looking for customizations. We use the Genesis framework that makes customization possibilities endless, we also install a content editor that makes managing your site very easy even without knowing code. Currently, WordPress powers a whopping 33% of the web (around 65-75 million)!
- Squarespace – Squarespace is great if you’re looking for an easy to manage all in one option with hosting included. There are really beautiful templates available and it’s relatively easy to edit without knowing code. There are little fewer customization options and functionality than WordPress out of the box. Squarespace does offer shopping and blog options but they are not as robust as WordPress in our opinion. If you’re looking for a simple site that’s fairly affordable to setup Squarespace could be the right option for you.
- Shopify – Shopify is a fully hosted e-commerce solution that offers a lot of great options for selling online. There are many out of the box features that make setting up and managing your store fairly easy. Shopify may be right for you if you’re looking for a simple, easy to use e-commerce platform that looks nice. Shopify currently powers about 600,000 sites on the web.
